On Thursday, December 11, 2025, at 8:30 PM, the Salò Library will host an evening titled “From Antonio Scaino da Salò to Jannik Sinner: The history of tennis in the words of Gianni Clerici. .” Pierangelo Goffi, head of the library at the Università Cattolica in Brescia, will speak about the current golden age of Italian tennis, starting from the origins of the game and drawing inspiration from the treasures held at the Cattolica: a 1555 copy of the Trattato del giuoco della palla di messer Antonio Scaino da Salò (Treatise on the Ball Game)—considered the oldest tennis manual and kept at the “Carlo Viganò” Library of the History of Science—and the Fondo Gianni Clerici (Gianni Clerici Collection), a gathering of books, magazines, posters, and photographs that belonged to the “tennis scribe.”
